Adam Magers
MA, LPC

As an Iraq War veteran turned therapist who has specialized in supporting other veterans with Post Traumatic Stress since 2014, I bring a great deal of personal and professional experience into the therapy room with my clients. I use an integrative approach, though I specialize in depth-oriented, psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, and Jungian-oriented psychotherapy. These perspectives share an appreciation for the role that unconscious dynamics play in our suffering, healing, and transformation process, with an emphasis on the role of dreams as the psyche attempts to guide us toward wholeness. Jungian psychology, in particular, views symptoms and suffering primarily as purposeful rather than pathological, and so the therapeutic process attempts to follow the psyche's natural gradient towards transformation.

I join with my clients in a caring and supportive way as we turn towards emotional, somatic, and psychological experiences to understand their purpose and meaning. Often, without our awareness, hardships of the past and present give rise to unconscious dynamics in the psyche which cause us discomfort and a loss of vitality as our true self, or objective personality, is lost. My goal is to help my clients overcome their challenges through a deeply transformative process that results in a clearer, more authentic, and more stable sense of self, and an improved sense of wellbeing. This necessitates an enhanced relationship with the unconscious, and a greater capacity for an embodied perspective. Whether you're going through a crisis, recovering from acute trauma, experiencing grief and loss, or struggling with anxiety, depression, or a sense of meaninglessness, I am here to help.

Apart from the orientations listed above, my training and experience also includes the following theories and therapies: humanistic or person-centered, somatic, mindfulness-based, cognitive-behavioral, gestalt, and ecotherapy. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Missouri (license number 2020014381).
